US98 Soccer Rag - Volume IV, Issue 6

What an ending to a GREAT Fall 2009 Champions League Regular Season!

Here are the Match Reports:

U-13 Division

FC BAYERN 30-A Chiropractic v. Fat Daddy's UNITED

(UNITED Gaffer: Deb Shost)

United wrapped up the regular season with a record of 4-2 after defeating Bayern 12-3 on Saturday.  United came ready to play despite the rain that fell during the pre-game warm up.  Dalton Shost got United on the board when he received a beautiful cross from Brandon Chapman and was able to put it in the back of the net.  The second goal was a repeat of the first, a cross set up by Brandon and a shot by Dalton.  Just before the quarter ended Jessica Chapman took a shot that hit the crossbar and Dalton rushed in to head the rebound into the net.  In the second quarter Garrett Shost added the fourth goal when he got his foot on the ball as it was being passed back to the Bayern keeper.  Jessica took a solid shot after intercepting a goal kick for her first goal of the game.  At the end of the first half, the score was 5-1.  Bayern was first to score in the third quarter making the score 5-2.  Jessica responded by scoring the next 3 goals, one from a cross from Brandon and one from a throw-in by Olivia Garrett.  Dalton added the last third quarter goal.  In the fourth quarter Matthew Brooks set Henry Savoie up for two more goals.  Bayern scored their third goal of the game before Olivia ended the scoring with a powerful shot that slipped through the Bayern keeper’s hands.  Collin Thomas made several key saves as goal keeper in the fourth quarter of the game holding Bayern to just one goal in the quarter.  Lizzie McDuffie played her position well, seeing where to be as each play developed.  Kristin Lane played aggressively, breaking up a number of rushes down the wing.  Looking good, United!

U-8 Division

CPH Galaxy v. Cafe' Rendez-Vous CELTIC

(GALAXY Gaffer: Kirby Williams)

Both CPH Galaxy and Celtic played a very good match with another nail biting finish. Down 2-4 halfway through the 4th quarter, Galaxy was able to pull together as a team and put the ball in the net three times in the final minutes winning 5-4. The Celts must be recognized and commended for their aggressive play and accurate shots on goal.  Emma Sutton, Calum Aronson, Dylan Nemecek, Ben Sirmans and Mac Williams each scored a goal for CPH Galaxy exhibiting a well balanced attack.   Dylan Nemecek and Payton Brundage, Galaxy’s youngest players, showed great maturity going toe-to-toe with older players.  Jay Borick, Michael Nemecek, Alex Halatsis and Mac Williams played gritty D halting the Celts’ attack as Galaxy’s undefeated season was at risk.  Every player gave 100% effort and contributed to the win. Coaches and parents continue to be very proud of their players.

(CELTIC Parent)

CELTIC jumped on GALAXY like a Spider Monkey, and took a 4-2 lead into the 4th quarter, with 2 Goals from U-8 rookie, Jack Franek, 2 Goals from U-8 veteran, Jaden Joodi, and tremendous defending, assists, and support from Brandon Emerick, Findlay Townsend, and the rest of the CELTIC Wrecking Crew.

HOWEVER, the GALAXY brain-trust must have been serving up some serious Gorilla Juice between the 3rd and 4th quarter, as their team went Ape on CELTIC to the tune of 3 goals in the final quarter to win the match 5-4, and secure their Perfect Regular Season.
CELTIC can take some solace in knowing that even if they did not blemish the GALAXY record, they undoubtedly earned some respect.
With one of the youngest and relatively new squads in U-8, including two Players that are still 5 Years Old, the CELTIC Nation stands extremely proud of all of their Players' efforts, determination, and strength throughout the Regular Season, especially against the much more established and experienced teams.
The Bhoys & Ghirls are looking forward to the Playoffs!
