US98 Soccer Rag - Volume IV, Issue 4

Footy Families of Northwest Florida!

Matchday IV and the weather had us scrambling up to the final minute, and we still have Matches left to play this Thursday!!

One Match Report so far, so enjoy!:

U-13+ Division

STANDARD de Red Bar v. Fat Daddy's UNITED

United took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter when Garrett Shost netted a rebound from Brandon Chapman’s too-hot-to-handle shot.  During the second quarter United added 3 more goals to their lead.  Jessica Chapman scored the second and third United goals and Dalton Shost added a fourth.  Jessica found the back of the net with her third goal of the game during the third quarter.  Dalton scored his second and third goals as well.  Standard put points on the board and at the end of three quarters the score was 7-3 in favor of United.  Standard tallied a lone goal in the fourth quarter making the final score 7-4 United.  Henry Savoie and Olivia Garrett were solid on defense shutting down the Standard offense for the first half.  Brandon Chapman worked the ball well on the right wing and set up many scoring opportunities.  Aria Gaffrey, Collin Thomas, and Lizzie McDuffie played aggressively and are all doing a great job playing their assigned positions.

U-8 Division

Fat Daddy's UNITED v. Cafe' Rendez-Vous CELTIC

Delayed by passport issues on their way in from Heathrow for the latest stop on their "Back In Black" World Tour, the UNITED eagle again rocked Helen McCall Coliseum on Thursday night with another thunderous Battle of the Bands against hard-rocking rivals CELTIC and their wiley manager, Joodi Iovine.

With guitarist Eric Plunk still out of commission with an undisclosed "Rock-related" injury, UNITED had to Bring the Noise to claim this prize, and bring it they did! CELTIC rocked, but they just couldn't roll over the crashing defensive rhythms laid down by Captain Elise "Thunderstruck" Plunk and Matthew "Mayhem" Christiansen.

Meanwhile, lead wingers Nadia Bock, Caden Casillo, and Evan Gore launched swirling metal grooves high into the rafters, and Dylan "D-Train" Sturdivant dropped a solo bass-line bomb into the back of the net.

The battle rocked back and forth, but then UNITED unplugged cyborg guitar virtuoso Turner "The Turnerator" Porterfield from his nuclear reactor charging station and he ran wild on the stage, incinerating the net with no less than 4 radioactive goals. The crowd went wild, and had to be pacified by local authorities.

As for next week's show:

For those about to ROCK...WE SALUTE YOU!!!

Coach Doug

Several Items as we head into Matchday V!!

  1. Supporters: The Matches are intensifying and so is the support from the fans! Wear your colors, fly your flag, design a banner, or come up with your own creative way to show your support for your Player and your Team, and your excitement in being part of The Beautiful Game!
  2. Celebration: This Saturday of Matches at Wind Garden Park coincides with the WaterSound Community Celebration. A formal announcement and description of events will be attached in an email. (Unfortunately, kayaking will not be offered because of anticipated winds.)
  3. Academie: We've firmed up the date for try-outs, and they will be on Wednesday, November 4th, from 5:00-6:30PM. Soccer Academie INTER98, in its third season, is looking to expand it's program to include those Players in ages 8 - 18 Years Old, boys and girls, that are committed to improving their individual soccer skills and abilities in a competitive, but training-focused, team environment. More information to come in a flyer next week!
  4. Jason Thompson: We do appreciate Deb Shost's efforts in trying to get a charity golf tournament going last Sunday, but unfortunately I think a mixture of things did not see that come to fruition. However, attached is a flyer about the Bayshore Haunted House, where donations will be accepted to help Jason in his quest to kick his cancer.
  5. FootyTalk: In Footy news from around the world, while the United States Mens National Team secured top spot in its qualifying group with a very emotional tie (due to a tragic car accident two nights before involving one of our best players, and an injury during the match to one of our best players as well) against Costa Rica, the Red, White, and Blue U-17s (an age group more relative to our Players) are preparing for the U-17 World Cup that kicks off in Nigeria next week. The Yanks play Spain first on Monday, Malawi on Thursday, and United Arab Emirates on Sunday, November 1st, to see who will qualify for the next round from that group. You can watch all of the action on ESPNU, ESPN360, and Galavision. Find out more about the future stars of the world and this promising competition here: http://www.fifa.com/u17worldcup/index.html

That is it for now. Looks like everything will dry out and provide a fantastic day of fun tomorrow.

Cheers & See You Out On The Pitch!
