Footy Fanatics of Northwest Florida!!
This issue of US98 Soccer Rag ushers out the final regular season matches for the U-8 and U-6 Age Groups, and ushers in the Playoffs for our U-14 and U-10 Groups. Just a friendly reminder, ALL of this Saturday's Matches will be held at US98 Soccer Fields-East, Wind Garden Park at WaterSound. Please be considerate of those few residents who currently live there, and park in designated areas or areas that avoid blocking anyone in. WaterSound has been a great additional location, that really takes into consideration those members of US98 Soccer that live on the eastern-side of South Walton. We look forward to being back in Spring!
Also, a reminder that EVERY Club in EVERY age group plays on Championship Saturday on November 15th at Helen McCall Park. There will be Consolation Matches, Playoff Matches (for the top four U-8 Clubs), of course Championship Matches, and carefully seeded Finale Matches for the U-6 Clubs. On top of that, we will be having a live DJ, "DJ Boog", and a Presentation Ceremony. We are still working on food and beverage items, but hopefully that will come to fruition as well. It will be a truly exciting, joyful, and celebratory time and event!
Now down to brass tacks. Here are the Match Reports for the previous two Saturdays, as provided by the Managers themselves:

Olympique 6/7 Matchday 5 (10.25.08) Summary
[cue The Imperial March from The Empire Strikes Back]
JamBone Empire 7, Olympique 0
Buoyed by last episodes' heroic destruction of the Zenit Death Star, the Olympique Rebel Alliance failed to notice that a Tracking Droid had discovered their secret game plan, and had dispatched the entire A.C. Jambone Imperial Starfleet to destroy their base on the 3rd moon of WaterSound. As the hulking Jambone forces landed and began to advance with earthshaking steps, the rebel Olympique veterans fought back bravely with a scappy makeshift defense against the towering enemy soccer robots, whose skillful attacks and tactical mastery drove the rebels back again and again.
The force was strong in twins Avery "Luke" Neal and sister Princess Eris, Dylan "Obi Wan" Sturdivant, Zak "Han Solo" Mignot, Chase "Chewy" Chandeysson, Queen Emma-dala (Gibson and Boulware both) and sneaky droid Nadia-2D2, but it was not enough to stop the awesome power of the dark side that sunny morning. The Jambone stormtroopers, commanded by the towering figure of Darth Oli (whose blatant use of the force to control the ball during the game was obvious to all, as even the Olympique penalty kicks went wide!) took aim at the Olympique shield generator and blaster it apart with multiple well-aimed shots. The rebels were forced to flee, with Avery Skywalker getting a new robotic foot to replace the one he lost in the battle, and Zak Solo encased in a block of carbonite to be turned over to barbeque king JamBone the Hutt.
But, led as always by the wisdom of Jedi Master Patrick "Yoda" Hughes, the Olympique rebellion escaped to their backup base on the forest moon of Helen McCall and prepared for next week's episode with renewed purpose and focus. May the Force be with them!

ZENIT St. Joe U-10 / Manager, David Smith
Zenit, St. Joe played to a 1-1 draw against Aly’s Beach. Zenit took the early lead with a goal from mid-field by Sam Rich. With both teams playing with only 7 players the pace was fast and furious. Aly’s Beach tied the game at one a piece in the second half and there were a lot of close shots from both sides throughout the game. Peter Masone was tough in the goal and made numerous saves. Other players who played tough for Zenit were Alyssa Selvey, Sterling Smith, and Georgia Bright. “We are really looking forward to our next game and getting back on the winning track”, stated coach David Smith.
SouthWalton CELTIC U-6
CELTIC 4&5s met East South Walton neighbors, REAL Alys Beach, on this fine soccer Saturday past. The temperature and altitude, as well as attitudes, were perfect for this friendly rivalry. As is their way, CELTIC traded goals in the beginning, with CELTIC's Coach Rob instituting a J.A.R.(Jack, Alex, Risdon)-Head (as in, use it to out-smart your opponents) strategy which finally showed significant results by the second half. Jack Franek led the way with 6 goals. Alex Channing again showed tremendous defending qualities and lumped in 3 goals, including a top corner shot that rattled the framework, as well as the opponents, before slamming into the back of the net and slamming the door on REAL's hopes. Risdon Bradley continued to show a penchant for finesse and scoring, with a goal on the day. A great showing by all Players, and a total team effort in all!
Matchday VI, November 1st
REAL Alys Beach U-6 / Manager, Ron Romano:
In the 4-5 yr olds...Dalton Romano REAL Alys Beach, had 8 goals in a 16-4 victory over OLYMPIQUE.
SouthWalton CELTIC U-6: A heaping helping of humble pie was served up courtesy of U-6 Juggernaut Fat Daddy's UNITED. An effective "one defender back" strategy confused and blunted any CELTIC attacks. A very physical match was played by both sides, but the Princess of Cool, Risdon Bradley, still managed to provide some touch and poise in this barbaric display, slotting one goal in for the visiting CELTIC side in a 5-1 defeat.
Matchday VI Game Summary (11.01.08)
Olympique 6, Alys Beach Real 1
Regrouping on the forest moon of Helen McCall after the Battle of WaterSound, the Olympique Rebel Alliance surveyed their battered forces: now only 6 rebel leaders remained. Missing were Avery "Luke" Neal and Princess Eris, who had journeyed to Tatooine in search of Zak "Han Solo" Mignot, still frozen in a block of Carbonite and hung on the wall of the tatoo parlor next to JamBone the Hutt's barbeque joint.
But even shorthanded, the Olympique rebels stepped up their game and played one of their best matches of the year! While Patrick "Yoda" Hughes protected the homeworld from every attack, Nadia "2D2" Bock scurried about reading the enemy's computerized plans. Then, guided by the unearthly passes from Dylan "Obi Wan" Sturdivant, Queen Emma-dala Boulware turned off her targeting computer and relied on the Force, delivering a stunning 3 proton torpedo strikes to the reactor core! Queen Emma-dala Gibson completed her Jedi training with another goal of her own, and while flying the Milennium Falcon alone, Chase "Chewbacca" Chandeysson poured in 2 additional blaster strikes and multiple great passes to complete the victory.
Alys Beach Real struck back with a goal late in the game, but their courageous attack could not overcome the Olympique Rebellion that day, as they came together and played their best soccer yet! Coaches Doug and Mike, and all the parents, are very proud of their efforts!

ZENIT St. Joe / Manager, David Smith: Zenit, St. Joe U10 played Jambone this week and lost a close one, 2-1. It was a defensive battle the first half which ended with a 0-0 score. Jambone took the lead early in the second half with a hard fought goal. Later in the second half Zenit tied the game up with a goal from Elaina Davies. Soon after the tie, Jambone scored on a well struck free kick. With the game coming to a close Sterling Smith struck a ball from 25 yards out that seemed to stay in the air forever before striking the crossbar denying the tying goal. Peter Masone was tough in the goal and made numerous saves. Other players who played tough for Zenit were Mia McAdams on defense, Collin Reeves and Sam Mills at mid-field. “We are really looking forward to the playoffs, we are hoping to get one of our best players back this week, Helene Masone has been out with an injury since the first game of the season”, stated coach David Smith.
In other news, Soccer Academie INTER98 (the Travel Team for US98 Soccer), begins training this Wednesday, November 5th at 4:00PM at Helen McCall Park. Presently, the focus is on U-11 Players, but the plan is to offer this for U-8, U-10, and U-12 (maybe even U-14) in the near future. We are blazing new territory on the soccer horizon again, and the momentum and evolution are unstoppable!
Thank you all for your support and participation. I'll publish another issue of US98 Soccer Rag next week to update you on Playoff and Championship happenings.
Cheers & See You Out On The Pitch!
